To set the number of text columns on a page you use word s columns command. You can specify column width and the amount of space which is also referred to as the gutter that s displayed between columns. In addition you can adjust the column width using the column guidelines and adjust the gutter width using the ruler. Unlock the column guides by choosing view grids guides lock column guides.

Gutter width adjusts the distance between columns. When combined with the fullwidth row option this can create effects similar to the fullwidth portfolio module. To specify column and gutter width by using exact measurements 1. To use your mouse rest the cursor on right side of the column boundary you want to move until it becomes a resize cursor and then drag the boundary until the column is the width you want. To add a gutter margin select layout margins custom margins and type a width in the gutter box. Select the line between option to have word put a vertical line between columns. Click the layout tab and in the page setup group click the columns button. Then choose layout margins and columns and in the dialog box set the number of columns and gutter that you want.

If you want your columns to all stay the same width as one another you can just adjust the number in the width box for column 1. Once you create columns in your word 2007 document you can adjust their width and the space between them using the columns dialog box. Changes you make there apply to all columns no matter how many you have. And now on to actually adjusting the column width.
